St. John the Evangelist Code of
Conduct Contract
St. John the Evangelist is committed
to the development of our parish youth through the healthy partnership of
parents, students, coaches
and teachers. Individuals are encouraged to pursue excellence while maintaining
good sportsmanship. Players, parents, and coaches are
asked to acknowledge that participation in CYO Athletics is a privilege and
offensive behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Therefore, each player, parent and coach is expected to follow the St. John the
Evangelist CYO Code of Conduct.
ENFORCEMENT:
The parish and leagues, under the supervision of the Archdiocese of
Philadelphia, shall enforce this code. Complaints regarding violations
of the code shall first be brought to the attention of St. John the Evangelist's
CYO Athletic Board. The Board and Pastor will take whatever
action deemed appropriate against player, parent or coach up to and including
suspension from CYO activities for their actions.
COACH:
> I shall conduct myself in a Christian like manner with respect to coaches,
players, referees and spectators.
> I shall have clearance to coach as required by Archdiocese of Philadelphia
(i.e. Protecting God's Children/Creating Safe Environment
training and Pennsylvania Background Checks - State Police Criminal Record Check
& Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance.)
> I shall recognize that the game belongs to the players and will put the
welfare of the game and the players above any personal gain.
> I shall do my best to learn the fundamental skills and teaching techniques
related to the game in which I coach and become familiar with the rules of the
game.
> I shall not engage in any unsportsmanlike-like conduct and will not tolerate
such behavior from my players or spectators.
> I shall uphold the authority of the referee(s) who are assigned to the game,
in which I coach. I will refrain from criticizing the referee(s) and
I will assist them every way possible to conduct a fair and competitive game.
> I shall avoid arguing with opposing coaches, player(s), referee(s), or
spectators before, during or after a game.
> I shall learn the strengths and weakness of my players so that I can develop a
training program to enhance their strengths and place them into situations that
provide them with maximum opportunity to achieve success and development.
> I shall conduct and develop practices so that players have an opportunity to
improve their skill level through active success and development.
> I shall begin and end all practices on time and with a prayer.
> I shall accept responsibility for all facilities and equipment including
cleaning up after every practice and game.
> I shall protect the health and safety of my players.
> I shall support and encourage participation in activities and fundraisers of
our CYO program.
I have read and fully understand St. John the Evangelist Code of Conduct
contract and agree to abide by these principles at all times.
