Edward J. Kiernan Sr.

Edward J. Kiernan, Sr. of Lower Makefield Township, PA died on Sunday February 18, 2018 at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA surrounded by his family. He was 81. He was born on October 15, 1936 to the late George and Lucy Dubee Kiernan, in North Arlington, NJ. He resided in Lower Makefield for the past 44 years.

A graduate of Seton Hall University with a double major, Edward was the Supervising Probation Officer for the Trenton, Camden and Atlantic City offices of the Federal Government, District of New Jersey. After a long and successful career with the Federal Government, he retired in 1988. During his retirement party the love and respect for Ed was felt deeply by all.

Edward was an active member of the Saint John the Evangelist parish and Council 7515 of the Knights of Columbus.

Beloved father of the late Edward J. Kiernan, Jr., he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Elizabeth Kernan Kiernan; his daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Kiernan and Dennis F. Witt of Langhorne, PA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael C. Kiernan of Boulder, CO, and Matthew J. and Annette Kiernan of Schwenksville, PA; a brother, Charles Kiernan of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Michael, Alex, MJ, and Julia and many wonderful Gilchrist and Kiernan nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Kiernan.

He will be missed most for his genuine soul and ability to find humor. Ed loved classical music and his garden. He was straightforward yet gentle and was always there to provide guidance and stability for his family. Words cannot express how much he will be missed nor how grateful the family is for all of the support they have received. They will move forward, living their lives to honor his memory, especially his deep faith…and of course have a sip of Irish Whiskey from time to time while having him in our hearts and laughs.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11am Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 752 Big Oak Road, Morrisville, PA, where friends may call from 10am. A luncheon will follow at his home, where all friends are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Joseph’s Villa, 110 West Wissahickon Avenue, Flourtown, PA 19031.
