William ‘Bill’ Overberger of Lower Makefield died March 30, 2013, at Chandler Hall, Newtown. He was 88.

Born in Barnesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Dr. Charles and Beatrice Overberger. He was a resident of Lower Makefield since 1964.

Bill graduated from Penn State as a Chemical Engineer and worked for several companies before retiring from National Starch and Chemical in 1990.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Signal Corp attached to the Third Army in the European Theatre.

He was a founding member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Lower Makefield. Bill served on the Board of Directors at Chandler Hall Health Services in Newtown, PA, for over 20 years, and participated in many fundraising activities for Chandler Hall.

Bill was an avid golfer, tennis player and sports fan. He liked watching his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Eagles. He also enjoyed gardening, working crossword puzzles and bird watching. However, his greatest pleasure was spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary “Kate” Overberger, his son, Craig G. Overberger and his brother, Dr. Charles G. Overberger.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Trackenberg) Overberger, and his five children: William R. and his wife, Joyce of Warminster, Pa., Joseph W. and his wife, Marion of Orlando, Fla., Edward C. and his wife, Joanna of Barto, Pa., Anne Balcolm and her husband, Kenneth of Yardley, Beth Mowrey and her husband, Matthew of Hanover, Pa., and daughter-in-law Rosemary Overberger of Yardley. He is also survived by his step-children: Andrew G. Trackenberg and his wife, Lynn of Morristown, N.J., June Hughes and her husband, Wayne of Lansdale, Pa., and Ellen Incollingo and her husband, William of Yardley. In addition, Bill is survived by his brother, Dr. James Overberger and his wife Joan of Morgantown, W.Va, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Overberger of Ann Arbor, Mich., and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Bernice Albright of Indiana, Pa. Nineteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive him.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 4, at FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home, 17 S. Delaware Ave (River Road), Yardley. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 5, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 752 Big Oak Road, Morrisville. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, Langhorne.
