Terra Nova Testing
Presently, St. John the Evangelist School in conjunction with the Office of Catholic Education with the Philadelphia Archdiocese, uses the TerraNova Third Edition for standardized testing. This testing was administered last school year to all students, Kindergarten to eighth grade, during the first week of March. For the 2011-2012 school year the Terra Nova testing will be held at St. John the Evangelist School from March 2 to March 9, 2012. Terra Nova results provide us information on how our students score as compared to national percentiles.
Our recent results for our K-8 students for the total reading tests averaged better than 82% of the students who took the same tests nationally. In the total mathematics tests our K-8 students averaged better than 80% of the students who took the same tests nationally. For total performance, including every test administered, our students averaged better than 85% of the students who took the same tests nationally. We are proud of this overall performance which indicates high academic performance, which supports our credit as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence awarded in 2008.
Letter to Parents for Terra Nova Testing Preparations
Dear Parents,
Your child will be taking the Terra Nova Achievement Tests March 2-9, 2012. These tests are important and it is key that your child try his or her best. Please be sure to consider the following tips to ensure your child’s best test taking performance:
1. Get to bed early before tests to be alert and focused the next morning.
2. Eat a nutritional breakfast to stimulate a young mind.
3. Stay healthy to be able to participate in the test taking. (Note: Please do not pull your child out of school this week for a reason other than illness. We will be taking these tests each and every morning and it is crucial that we have full attendance.)
4. Play after school! (We will be sitting for long periods of time during these tests. Please encourage your child to play outside after school to refresh his/her tired body.
5. Please be sure that your child has a chapter book for school each day. Once a student finishes an assigned section, he/she may read quietly at his/her desk until we begin the next section. Students are not permitted to stand up and go to the class library during the test.
Thank you for your assistance in ensuring your child performs his/her best!
Sincerely,
The SJE Teaching Staff
